Future Oil & Gas 2026 : Panel 1 Discussion

Moving from AI POCs to Production Use Cases that Deliver Measurable Value – Governance and Operating Model Considerations When Scaling in Regulated Environments" – Panel 1 Discussion, featuring industry leaders from Shell, ExxonMobil, bp, Aker BP, ADNOC and INEOS at Future Oil & Gas 2025.

Artificial intelligence is delivering promising results across the energy sector, yet many organisations continue to face the same challenge: moving successful proof of concepts into production at scale. In Panel 1 at Future Oil & Gas 2026, industry leaders explored what it takes to bridge that gap, sharing practical experiences of deploying AI in operational environments where governance, safety and accountability are paramount.

Rather than focusing solely on technology, the discussion examined the organisational changes required to achieve long-term success. Panellists explored why trusted data, clear ownership and robust governance frameworks are essential foundations for AI adoption, while emphasising that responsibility for operational decisions must always remain with people. The conversation also highlighted the importance of designing flexible, vendor-agnostic architectures that avoid technology lock-in and allow organisations to adapt as AI capabilities continue to evolve.

The panel also addressed the human side of digital transformation, discussing how leaders can build trust in AI, empower cross-functional teams and create operating models that combine human expertise with intelligent automation. The conversation challenged organisations to rethink leadership, workforce development and decision-making, recognising that scaling AI is as much about culture and processes as it is about technology.

Another key theme was measuring success. Rather than pursuing innovation for its own sake, the panellists discussed practical ways of evaluating AI initiatives against measurable business outcomes, strategic priorities, operational resilience and long-term value. Throughout the discussion, real-world examples illustrated both the opportunities and the lessons learned from deploying AI across complex industrial environments.

Watch the full panel discussion to gain practical insights from leading operators and technology experts on the governance, leadership and operating models required to move AI beyond experimentation and into trusted, enterprise-scale deployment.
