Anders Bagge Kohler, CEO of Floating Power Plant A/S, presented a different perspective on the energy transition, focusing on how oil and gas operators can maximise the value of existing offshore assets while responding to rising demand for reliable, low-carbon power.
The presentation explored the growing pressure on Europe’s energy system, from increasing electricity demand and grid constraints to the rapid expansion of data centres required to support AI infrastructure. Anders explained how Floating Power Plant’s integrated platform is designed to deliver green energy on demand by combining floating wind, hydrogen storage and fuel cell technology to provide 24/7 power where it is needed.
A key theme was the opportunity for oil and gas assets to play a more active role in the transition. Rather than viewing ageing platforms only through the lens of decommissioning, Anders outlined how offshore infrastructure could be repurposed or extended to support power supply, subsea operations, hydrogen production and even future data centre hubs.
The session also highlighted Floating Power Plant’s power-as-a-service model, which allows operators to access reliable offshore power without owning the technology outright. By connecting directly into existing asset infrastructure, the approach offers a potential route to lower emissions, improved energy resilience and new value creation as fields approach end of life.
