Future Oil & Gas 2026 : Thought Leadership – SEEQ

Trust Is the Difference Between a Pilot and Production by Steven FitzGerald, Senior Solutions Consultant at SEEQ, at Future Oil & Gas 2026.

Steven FitzGerald, Senior Solutions Consultant at SEEQ, examined why trust is often the deciding factor between an AI pilot that looks promising and a production solution that becomes part of everyday operations.

The presentation focused on a common challenge across oil and gas: AI tools can produce confident, polished and useful answers, but small inconsistencies can quickly undermine confidence when those outputs influence decisions around reliability, emissions, safety or production performance. Steven argued that the issue is not simply whether AI works, but whether people trust it enough to act on its recommendations.

A key theme was the “conversion gap” between pilot success and operational adoption. Many AI trials perform well in controlled environments but fail to reach the control room, maintenance workflow, production meeting or regulatory process. For AI to scale, it must be grounded in operational context, supported by reliable data and shaped by the expertise of the people who understand how assets really behave.

Steven also highlighted the importance of capturing knowledge that often sits in the heads of experienced engineers and operators. Rather than replacing expert judgement, AI should help remove friction, make analysis repeatable and create pathways that allow teams to collaborate, validate outputs and make better decisions with confidence.
